Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Our SM TAFE Bentley fashion students dominated three runway events at this year's Perth Fashion Festival- Generation Next, Future Runway and our very own DNA runway show.

Fourteen of our fashion student finalists showcased their designs on the catwalk at Yagan Square for Perth Fashion Festival’s Future Runway

Future Runway showcases fashion student designs from WA’s leading fashion design schools and universities.

SM TAFE Bentley dominated the proceedings at Future Runway, taking out three prizes in the six categories.

Advanced Diploma Fashion student Airon Cataylo won the Eveningwear category, Certificate IV student Aimee-Lee Verrier took our the Wearable Technology award and Advanced Diploma student Maree Aldred won the Ready-to-wear Menswear category for the second year in a row.

These wins continue a pattern of success for our Bentley fashion students at Future Runway, having won a total of 15 awards over the last four years.

The collections of three of our fashion graduates Henrietta Grochowski, Gabrielle Rule and Jasmine O’Brien were also featured at the Perth Fashion Festival, in the emerging designer show Generation Next on 12 September.

Furthermore, on the final day of the Festival, 30 SM TAFE Bentley students presented a free unique runway show celebrating Diversity, inclusioN and Acceptance (DNA) on September 15.

The Bentley fashion students explored their own DNA as inspiration for this high fashion event which showcased diversity of creativity, precision skills and sustainability.

Creative industries portfolio manager Andrea Quintal said the annual fashion festival was a valuable opportunity for our fashion students.

“South Metropolitan TAFE Bentley are privileged once again to be a part of the Perth Fashion Festival, which provides our students and staff with the opportunity to collaborate with industry, creatives and like-minded enthusiasts,” Ms Quintal said.

SM TAFE Bentley offers a Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising and also offers a new Diploma of Business and Merchandising.
