Our resident experts, the Client Engagement Officers at our Jobs and Skills Centres, have provided some advice on how to align yourself with an emerging job "of the future".  Here is their advice on the study and career requirements for each role:

1. Artificial Intelligence Specialist 

Step 1. Study Certificate IV in Programming at SM TAFE
Step 2. Study Diploma of Software Development at SM TAFE
Step 3. Start with a career as an Assistant Software Developer
Step 4. Study a degree in computer science and gain practical experience by taking part in research or initiating a project
Step 5. Complete industry certifications including programming in Python, Deep Learning, TensorFlow, Machine Learning and Computer Vision
Step 6. Go on to study a Masters degree at university

2. Cyber Security Specialist

Step 1. Study Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Cyber Security) or Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Network Administration) at SM TAFE
Step 2. Study Certificate IV in Cyber Security at SM TAFE
Step 3. Gain experience in networking and computer systems administration or computer support positions to get a good understanding of a company, their systems and internal and external threats
Step 4. Study Advanced Diploma of Cyber Security at SM TAFE
Step 5. Study a Bachelor of Cyber Security at university
Step 6. Complete industry certifications including Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Certified Security Analyst (ECSA), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), Cybersecurity Fundamentals (CSX), Penetration Testing, SIEM, Splunk, Network Security and Information Security
Step 7. Develop your career skills as an information security specialist, risk analyst, cyber security consultant, cyber security designer, cyber security analyst

3. Marketing Automation Specialist

Step 1: Study a Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication at SM TAFE
Step 2: Begin your career working in general marketing and hone your skills in digital marketing
Step 3: Attain industry certification in website content management systems, social media, Google suite, analytics and tracking the customer journey
Step 4: Work in a role that uses marketing automation software, and become proficient in its use e.g. Salesforce, Marketo, Oracle, Dynamics 365, etc

4. Robotics Engineer (Software)

Step 1. Study a Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering or Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering at SM TAFE
Step 2. Begin a career as a Computer Systems Technician or Engineering Associate
Step 3. Study a degree in Mechatronics at university, and build your experience by trying your own project
Step 4. Develop your experience working as a Junior Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer or Mechanical Engineering Assistant in creating electrical schematics, PLC programming, system architecture robotics, automation and control systems to automate industrial processes 
Step 5. Develop additional knowledge in Robotics Process Automation (RPA), programming in Python and C, UiPath and Automation Anywhere

5. Site Reliability Engineer (also known as Dev Ops Engineer)

Step 1. Study a Certificate IV in Programming at SM TAFE
Step 2. Study a Diploma of Software Development at SM TAFE
Step 3. Begin your career as an assistant software developer or as a user experience designer or full stack developer, building your agile development processes
Step 4. Complete industry certifications and build experience in Linux systems, Python, JavaScript, Bash, Ruby, KVM, Zen, VMWare, Openstack, Ganglia and Cloud Platforms SRE squad
Step 5. Study a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at university

6. Customer Success Specialist

Step 1: Study a Certificate IV in Marketing and Communications at SM TAFE
Step 2: Begin your career working in general marketing and build your market analysis and research skills
Step 3: Work in roles that involve Relationship Management and/or Account Management to develop your skills in anticipating customer needs and providing superior customer service
Step 4: Study a degree in Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations at university
Step 5: Build your knowledge of data-analytics by studying additional qualifications and short courses, e.g. Microsoft Certificates in Big Data and SQL and various Data Analytics courses 
Step 6: Work in roles where Customer Relationship Management (CRM) databases are used to identify the needs of customer and market segments

7. Data Scientist 

Step 1: Study a Certificate IV in Programming at SM TAFE
Step 2: Study a Diploma of Software Development at SM TAFE to build your understanding of database building and data-modelling
Step 3: Begin your career working as an assistant software developer, where you can further develop your proficiency in JavaScript, Python, SQL and other programming languages
Step 4: Study a Bachelor of Computer Science or Information Management at university
Step 5: Study a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and/or Master of Data Science at university 
Step 6: Work in data science roles where you expand your programming knowledge and apply this in areas such as predictive analytics

8. Data Engineer 

Step 1: Study a Certificate IV in Programming at SM TAFE
Step 2: Study a Diploma of Software Development at SM TAFE to build your understanding of database building and of Python, SQL and other programming languages
Step 3: Begin your career working as an assistant software developer, particularly with organisations involved in database development 
Step 4: Completed a Bachelor of Computer Science or Information Management
Step 5: Proceed to a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and/or Master of Data Science 
Step 6: Continue to work towards gaining database certifications in platforms, e.g. Oracle My SQL Database Administrator, Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2
Step 7: Work in data engineering roles where you expand your knowledge of database architecture and development

9. Growth Manager 

Step 1: Study a Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication at SM TAFE
Step 2: Begin your career working in marketing roles, where you can and to build your market research skills and demonstrate your ability to exceed sales targets
Step 3: Study a bachelor’s degree with majors in Marketing, Advertising and/or Public Relations at university
Step 4: Work in roles that involve end-to-end Product or Account Management and use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) databases and data analytics to capture and anticipate customer needs 
Step 5: Work in Senior Product Management roles where you can be responsible for product development, including strategic marketing to specific regions and market segments

10. Chief Strategy Officer 

Step 1: Study a Diploma in Leadership and Management at SM TAFE
Step 2: Begin your career working in customer-facing roles with advancement opportunities to Team Leader or second in charge and business management positions
Step 3: Study a degree in business administration, accounting or law at university
Step 4: Work in roles that involve product management and being involved in strategic planning. Finding a good mentor to assist you to develop your strategic thinking skills will be important! 
Step 5: Complete a Masters in Business Administration at university to further develop your critical thinking and strategic leadership skills

11. Anti-money Laundering Specialist

Step 1: Study a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping at SM TAFE
Step 2: Study a Diploma of Accounting at SM TAFE
Step 3: Begin working in accounting, developing your skills in financial reporting systems, account balances, cash flow statements, income statements, balance sheets, tax returns and internal control systems
Step 4: Study a degree in Accounting at university
Step 5: Work in roles that hone your financial auditing skills and experience
Step 6: Complete a industry certification in anti-money laundering

12. Product Owner

Step 1: Study a Diploma of Business Administration or Diploma of Leadership and Management at SM TAFE
Step 2: Begin your career working as an assistant Business Administrator or Marketing Assistant
Step 3: Upskill with courses in IT programming and project management focusing on scrum methodologies
Step 4: Work in a role that project manages system analysis and design

13. Service Owner

Step 1: Study a Diploma of Business, Diploma of Leadership and Management or Diploma of Human Resources Management at SM TAFE 
Step 2: Begin your career working as an assistant in business administration or customer service
Step 3: Upskill with courses in user experience and design thinking
Step 4: Work in a role that uses customer journey planning to improve processes

14. Full Stack Engineer

Step 1. Study a Certificate IV in Programming at SM TAFE
Step 2. Study a Diploma of Software Development at SM TAFE
Step 3: Begin your career working as an assistant programmer and hone your skills in programming, attend hackathons and networking events
Step 4: Complete industry certification in JavaScript, Git and C# and code design
Step 4: Work in a role that uses web design packages, e.g. Adobe

15. Automation Consultant 

Step 1: Study a Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering at SM TAFE
